A3: Role of Angiopoietin/Tie system in controlling vascular morphogenesis and homeostasis
The Angiopoietin/Tie ligand/receptor tyrosine kinase signaling system acts as a key regulator of vascular maturation, remodeling and maintenance of vascular and tissue homeostasis. Work in the applicant’s laboratory during the current funding period has yielded important insights into the mechanisms of Angiopoietin-2 signaling and function and laid the basis for a systematic analysis of Tie1 towards Angiopoietin/Tie2 signaling. The experimental program of the third funding period will concentrate on the role of Ang-2 signaling in controlling pericyte function and on the systematic analysis of Tie1 function.
